I’m Dawna Miller the CEO of Unplugged Empowerment, LLC.
And here’s my story…
In my most recent past I was a C-level executive in the Financial Services industry. Today, I’m an entrepreneur. I was not born leader, but I’ve made myself leader of my own life and I now live a life on my terms.
I was born in Hawaii (it’s not as great as it sounds, we moved when I was 2), the eldest daughter of an enlisted man and a nurse, but have spent most of my life in Florida. After graduating from high school, I went on to college where I earned a Bachelor’s in Accounting and an MBA. Then I went on to successfully the CPA exam on my first attempt. All sounds great, right?
By traditional rules, I was poised for success. What a complete load of “you-know-what”!
I spent over 20 years in the corporate “rat race” of the financial service industry. I was living the “American Dream”, rising each day to the deafening and dreaded sound of the alarm clock, racing to get out the door on time, commuting along with the masses to my j-o-b, working endless hours, commuting home, dinner, reviewing homework with my son and falling into bed just to turn around and do the EXACT same thing the next day. All to earn a paycheck that was based on someone else’s determination of my value and to make some one else rich. Does any of this sound familiar? Oh, I did climb the corporate ladder and finally achieved that big corner office with a view, and the title on my business card included a big “C” in front! However, no matter how dedicated an employee or how high on the food chain I was, due to the ever changing economic environment, I kept landing on my rear end and in the unemployment line. Then in my early 40’s, I found myself a single mother and in the unemployment line for the third time in my illustrious career! Geez, can’t I catch a break? While being unemployed was not uncharted territory for me, I still found myself completely paralyzed by fear and uncertainty. Coupled with my financial woes, my personal life was in complete shambles as well. Let me just tell you I could have taken up an entire season of reality TV at it’s worst, believe me. No I’m not going to share with the world, some things are just better left in the closet of the past – preferably in some dark far corner.
Then in the blink of an eye everything changed, literally. No, my financial circumstances didn’t change – I didn’t win the lottery or anything that glamorous, what changed was me. While sitting in church services one Sunday morning – yes I am a Christian, I felt that every word out of the Pastor’s mouth was directed at me – isn’t that amazing how they do that? Anyway, the previous day had been emotionally devastating and I was in a ”funk” to say the least. Then the message began to sink into my very thick skull…
The only way to change and to fulfill my true potential in life was to completely let go of the familiar and the past. Whoa! Wait a minute, that’s scary, even in my state of depression at least I was familiar with the feeling and circumstances – so it wasn’t scary. After all our past and what we are comfortable with is what makes us who we are, right? Well that’s the problem, if we are too afraid to let go then we cannot grow and develop our true hidden potential. Fear of leaving what is familiar keeps most of us from growing and moving forward. To abandon the familiar means moving way outside our comfort zone, but the desire to reach our full potential is latent in all of us. We have to choose to develop it or just sit back and let life drag us around by our circumstances. Reactive living versus proactive living. Well I’ll tell you sitting there I had had just about enough of reactive living. I needed and wanted to make some positive changes in my life. While I sat there amongest the congregation and hanging on every word of the lesson, I let my entire past and all the was familiar and painful completely go – yep that fast, it was just gone. It was an extremely liberating experience. How you ask? Quite simply I decided to let go and in complete blind faith, I turned my life over to God, and I’m no longer afraid to leave everything behind me, way behind me. I want what’s out there, not where I’ve been and the only way to get from here to there is to just let go and trust that God will guide my steps.
I realized that every person in that congregation was more than they were right at that moment. There are no limits to what each and everyone one of us can achieve if we move forward with out fear. To quote Marianne Williamson, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothng enlighted about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciouslyu give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” What a powerful thought, and 100 percent dead on.
So what did I do? I developed my own Footsteps to Living Life On My Terms:
Step 1: Develop a Plan – Thought to Consider: If you can’t imagine it, you can’t do it. I clearly defined my goals and outlined what I wanted my life to look like of the next 30, 60, and 90 days, the next year, the next 5 years and the next 10 years. I posted my plan where I could see it every day, as a matter of fact, I began posting all kinds of thoughts and ideas throughout my home and my son began to think I was crazy! I view my plan as the GPS navigation system of my life. If I make a wrong turn, my plan redirects my actions.
Step 2: The Power of the Mind – Thought to Consider: Don’t ask why the battle was lost, but how the next battle can be won! Your mind is programmed to respond to the questions you ask, so remember the past is the past, to move forward and change your mindset, you must ask HOW, not why. The power of the mind is our greatest asset, and sadly, significantly underutilized by most. I harnessed my mindset and used it by to transform my way of thinking about myself and my life by asking powerful questions and demand nothing less than equally powerful responses. I would not settle for anything less, if I didn’t like the answer, I asked a different more powerful question.
Step 3: Commitment – Thought to Consider: You must commit to do whatever it takes to transform your life and believe in yourself. Without commitment you cannot overcome fear. If you find this step difficult, then ask yourself what are you afraid of? Is fear of the unknown greater than the pleasure of living a transformed life? Then your dreams aren’t big enough!
Step 4: Association – Thought to Consider: Leverage! If you are ABSOLUTELY COMMITTED TO TRANSFORMING YOUR LIFE and living life on your terms and with a purpose, then you must surround yourself with like-minded individuals. We all need a support system, research and locate individuals that have achieved the life you desire and leverage their collective knowledge, experience and expertise. Duplicate it, take ownership of it and make it your own!
While I firmly believe that transforming your life is about letting go of your fear and finding YOUR own unique purpose, financial freedom relieves the stress of having to choose between living up to your potential and your paycheck. Because I’m passionate about developing my true potential and living my life on my terms, I am also passionate that I not be constrained by the traditional methods of earning a living. Nor am I willing to allow someone or something else determine my value and how I spend my time. So how did I accomplish this…
I chose to join an elite community of online internet entrepreneurs and from that point forward I set out on an unbelievable journey.
This community is dedicated to the success of each and every member. The business platform provides premier educational and technical resources that take the guess work out of becoming a successful internet entrepreneur.

The system itself is a road-map for success, by following the step-by-step program any one from anywhere with any background in the world can learn how to successful market any product or service on the internet. I had absolutely no experience in internet-based business models and was able to apply this business plan quicker than I had ever imagined would be possible through leveraging the knowledge, experience and expertise of those I wished to emulate in my business and my life.
Here are few things that you need to know about this community and business model BEFORE you decide to follow the link:
What it is NOT:
- It is not for the faint at heart, it’s not easy! It requires hard work, dedication and above all consistency!
- It’s not a “get rich scheme”.
- It is not an MLM (multi-level marketing).
- It is not an affiliate program.
What it IS:
- For the serious, independent-minded entrepreneur.
- A legitimate, legal and ethical business model.
- An educational and technical resource platform – you do not have to invent the wheel, but you do have to re-create it, so being able to follow instructions is critical to success.
- A community of industry experts with hundreds of years of collective marketing experience in internet-based business models dedicated to the success of each and every member. That’s why there is an application process, if you aren’t serious, you aren’t wanted.
In a nutshell, this opportunity IS for you if you are completely committed to transforming your financial future and living your life on your own terms. This is NOT for you if you cannot “think outside the box” of your past experiences or if you lack commitment. Success or failure is ultimately decided by your level of commitment to action, your determination of your own value, dedication and consistency. If you’re too skeptical to make a change and take a chance, then don’t, this isn’t for you.
Step 5: Massive Action – Thought to Consider: Nothing worth having is obtained without first taking a chance. At this point I didn’t concern myself so much with the quality of my actions so much as the quantity. I took the approach that “a body in motion tends to stay in motion, while a body at rest tends to stay at rest” and I had to get into the habit of actually doing something productive in my life rather than just reacting to circumstance.
Step 6: Focus – Thought to Consider: Learn from your mistakes, don’t live them. This is a continuous education process and failure is one of the greatest educational tools known to man. I reviewed and refined my approach. I filtered out what wasn’t working, mastered what was and continuously tried new things.
Step 7: NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF – Thought to Consider: The world doesn’t owe you a damn thing!
By following the steps above, I found the success that had always seemed to elude me in the past. Each day I’m developing my ultimate potential and living life on my own terms, all without the constraints of having a traditional J-O-B!
Today I live a life filled with purpose and is founded on my unshakeable belief that God will guide my steps, I am my greatest asset, continuous education, decisive action, and through association with like-minded individuals.
Each and every one of us has a choice, you can either live a life driven by circumstance or you can stand up and take responsibility for, authority over and control of your life. As someone that has gone from living a reactive life to taking proactive control over my life, I know what it’s like to question your worth and to fear what tomorrow may have in store for you. Let go of your fear, it’s the only way to grow and develop. Fear cannot move mountains, but you can.
Your dreams can become a reality quicker than you can possibly imagine by simply taking control of your mindset, deciding how you want to live from this point forward, taking massive action and refusing to accept anything less than success from yourself.
